ANTI WORMS PROJECT IN NAIROBI
Antiworms project in Nairobi is carried out by World Friends ngo and Africa Calls International ngo in order to cope with worms.
The beneficiaries of the project are over 40.000 children of 50 primary schools set in four slums of Nairobi (Huruma, Korogocho, Kariobangi and Kahawa West)
The project includes three parts:
1.information: find out how much people know about this illness;
2.prevention: encourage students and make them aware of the correct behaviour to prevent worms;
3.cure: medicine distribution to solve the illness.
SCHOOL NUTRITION – Soweto Slum - Nairobi
Every day we distribute a meal to over 800 pupils of three primary schools. The objectives of the project are:
NUTRITIONAL CENTRE MARENGETA – Marengeta Slum - Nairobi
The programme gives its services to old age men and women, orphans and single mothers with many children in the village of Marengeta and the neighbourhood.
Main duty is to give food stuff on a weekly basis to the 200 old age and 30 single mothers on a weekly basis. The time table is that on Monday we pack the food, we offer some job to seven mothers, six packing food and one doing home cleaning. Tuesday-Thursday is always food distribution day from 9.00 a.m to 12.00 p.m.
KARIBUNI WATOTO PRE-NURSERY – Soweto Slum - Nairobi
An average of 80 children turned up daily. The children are being fed with balanced diet e.g morning time, milk and porridge, in the lunch hour ,balanced food e.g rice, meat, beans etc At 3.00 pm. they are fed with fruits.
STREET CHILDREN REHABILITATION PROGRAMME – Soweto Slum - Nairobi
The programme has two programme components, namely:
1.Meet the basic needs of the street and former street children, such as Food, Clothing, Games, Education and Cleanliness.
2.Provide counseling to help the boys change their attitude and behavior
3.Training in vocational skills such as metal fabrication, motor mechanic and barbar
4.Social, spiritual and moral growth and development
5.Nurture their diverse talents such as sport, arts and culture
6.Reintegrate the boys back into their families and society
7.Develop their interpersonal skills in order to help them to be independent ,to live and relate well with other people.
The programme caters for about 30 boys on a daily basis – they drop –in at the Center in the morning and leave at about 3 o’clock. At the Boarding section we currently have 8 boys, most of them pursuing their education in different local primary schools.
The aim of the project is to prevent the HIV trasmission from the mother to the child during pregnancy and feeding time. Over 40 mothers and their babies are helped through food support, medical assistance and home visits.
